If your face feels dry again soon after moisturizing, start with a fragrance-free cream and check how you wash your skin. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is our first researched option for ordinary facial dryness. Vanicream Moisturizing Cream suits a different decision: you want a petrolatum-based cream without ceramides or botanical extracts. Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer is the facial lotion alternative when you prefer to avoid a richer cream.

These are researched recommendations, not products we have personally tested. No formula is proven here to work better because you are in menopause. Your existing moisturizer can stay if it leaves your skin comfortable and causes no troublesome reaction.

Choose by the problem you need to solve

Product Why it made the shortlist Best starting fit Main tradeoff
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream Glycerin, ceramides and petrolatum in a face/body cream Dryness that calls for a cream rather than another watery layer A richer cream may not fit your daytime preferences
Vanicream Moisturizing Cream Petrolatum-based, without ceramides or botanical extracts You want to simplify your ingredient choices Contains propylene glycol, which matters if you already know you must avoid it
Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer Squalane, glycerin and ceramides in a facial lotion You want a facial alternative to the larger creams May be insufficient if your current lotion already leaves you dry

What we checked, and what we cannot rank

We checked the current US manufacturer ingredient lists, intended use and directions on October 3, 2026. The shortlist favors fragrance-free moisture without exfoliating acids or retinol as its main purpose. It also distinguishes a multipurpose face/body cream from a dedicated facial product. The reason to buy should be a useful difference in the formula or how you will use it.

An ingredient list cannot tell us which cream feels least sticky on your face, survives a full workday or sits best under your foundation. Those questions require actual use. Manufacturer descriptions of texture are not our observations. We do not rank these products by stars, claimed hours of hydration or commission rate.

The American Academy of Dermatology’s menopause guidance supports gentle cleansing and regular moisturizing for dryness. That is the care principle behind this selection, rather than a promise that a cream corrects hormonal changes.

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream: a useful first cream for ordinary dryness

The current manufacturer list includes glycerin, three ceramides, petrolatum, dimethicone and sodium hyaluronate. It contains no niacinamide in the checked list. CeraVe permits use on the face and body, day or night.

Its practical advantage is that it can replace a facial moisturizer and serve dry body areas too. That can reduce the number of open products, especially when your face and shins both need attention. Choose it because you want one cream for those jobs, rather than because the brand is frequently mentioned online.

The limitation is the same multipurpose approach. If you prefer a small facial tube or dislike the amount of cream required to feel comfortable beneath daytime layers, it may not be your best format. A non-comedogenic label also cannot guarantee that you will never develop a breakout or reaction. Try one new product at a time, and do not keep applying a cream that makes your skin burn.

Buy it when: your lotion is no longer enough and you want a face/body cream. Keep your current product when: it already handles the same jobs comfortably.

Vanicream Moisturizing Cream: for a deliberately simpler comparison

The manufacturer’s current formula uses petrolatum and sorbitol, with no ceramides, botanical extracts or fragrance. Directions include face and body use. The page lists a 16 oz pump and smaller 4 oz and 2 oz tubes.

This is useful if you are overwhelmed by long ingredient stories or want an option without the ceramide blend in CeraVe. It is also worth considering when you want a smaller initial purchase before committing to a large pump. Fewer ingredients do not make a product automatically safer, but a clear formula can make an existing avoidance list easier to check.

The important downside is propylene glycol in the ingredient list. That is not a reason for everyone to reject it. It is a reason to choose differently if you have a diagnosed allergy or prior advice to avoid that ingredient. A cream advertised for sensitive skin still has to suit your own skin.

Buy it when: the specific formula fits your known restrictions and you want one cream for face and body. Skip it when: a known ingredient conflict makes it unsuitable.

Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer: for a facial lotion rather than a tub cream

The Daily Facial Moisturizer formula contains squalane, glycerin, hyaluronic acid and five ceramides. Its directions allow day or night use. This is a different product from Vanicream Moisturizing Cream and Moisturizing Lotion, so check the full name before ordering.

Choose this when you want a dedicated facial product and the richer cream route does not fit your preferences. It offers a meaningful alternative without adding a separate hydration serum. The manufacturer describes makeup compatibility, but we have not tested that claim with your sunscreen or foundation.

Its limit is that choosing a lighter format may leave you in the same position as your current lotion. If your face is persistently uncomfortable despite appropriate cleansing and regular use, do not keep buying progressively more layers. Ask a dermatologist what is causing the dryness.

Buy it when: you need a facial moisturizer and want this specific formula. Skip the extra purchase when: your existing facial lotion already suits you.

Before you replace the cream, check these three things

First, look at the wash step. A cleanser that leaves you tight makes the moisturizer’s job harder. Second, notice whether you apply moisture only once your face feels completely dry. Third, check whether an exfoliant, retinol or a new fragranced product coincided with the change. The AAD dry-skin guidance recommends gentle products and a cream or ointment for dry skin.

Use the chosen product according to its label. Keep the rest of your routine stable while you assess comfort and tolerance. The useful result is less tightness and a routine you can maintain, not collecting every ingredient mentioned in an article. Moisturizer also does not replace broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher when you go outdoors.

Questions before buying

Do I need a menopause-branded moisturizer?

No. The shortlist follows dryness, ingredients and intended use. A menopause label does not establish that the product is better for you.

Is a body cream suitable for my face?

Some are, including the two face/body creams above according to their directions. Do not assume every body lotion is intended for facial use. Your tolerance and preferred format still matter.

Must my moisturizer contain ceramides?

No. They are one formulation option. Vanicream Moisturizing Cream has no ceramides, which is why this comparison does not use their presence as the sole passing criterion.

When is another product the wrong next step?

Persistent dryness, worsening burning, a rash or troublesome itch needs assessment. Do not assume menopause explains every new symptom or use a cosmetic as treatment for an undiagnosed condition.

Your next step

Choose one product only if it fills a gap. For routine changes, read what to change first for dry skin. Compare CeraVe and Vanicream Cream if those are your final two choices. For daytime foundation concerns, use the under-makeup selection guide.
