Best for: Scent lovers with calm, non-itchy skin
Downside: Lists fragrance
At a glance
Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Refillable Body Lotion with Cocoa Butter lists no fragrance, so it can suit ordinary dryness on arms and legs if you tolerate its plant oils. The Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter is a different product that does list fragrance, so skip the butter if your skin is itchy or reactive. The two share a name and a shelf, but not a fragrance status, so check which one you are buying.
Both are premium body products, not menopause products, and neither treats itch, rash or thinning skin. For very dry shins, CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is the drugstore comparison, with petrolatum and three ceramides that the Kiehl’s lotion does not list. Ingredient lists here are the US versions, read October 24, 2026. Formulas change, so read the label on your package.

What the lotion’s ingredient list shows
Kiehl’s lists water, hydrogenated polyisobutene, glycerin, coco-caprylate/caprate and propylene glycol first. US rules do not require amounts, so list order is only a rough guide.
- Glycerin (3rd) is a humectant that draws water into the outer skin. The American Academy of Dermatology names it among helpful moisturizer ingredients for menopausal dryness.
- Squalane (8th), shea butter (11th) and plant oils soften the surface.
- Cocoa seed butter, the ingredient in the product name, is 32nd of 38, after the preservative phenoxyethanol. That order suggests a small amount, so do not read “with cocoa butter” as mostly cocoa butter.
- For allergies: the list includes sesame seed oil, sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, soybean oil and soybean sterols, olive, avocado and sunflower oils, propylene glycol and a beta-carotene colorant. Ask a clinician first if you have a known allergy to any of these.
The fragrance question: lotion versus whipped body butter
The lotion has no fragrance or parfum entry. Kiehl’s says it is made “without synthetic fragrances” and that any natural scent comes from the cocoa butter. That is narrower than “fragrance-free,” and a natural scent can still bother reactive skin. Our guide to fragrance-free versus unscented explains the difference.
The whipped body butter is described by Kiehl’s as “infused with a light scent.” Its list shows PARFUM / FRAGRANCE, plus coumarin, limonene and benzyl alcohol, which some people react to. The AAD advises fragrance-free products for dry skin, and the NHS advises unperfumed moisturisers for itchy skin. That is why the butter is a skip for itchy or reactive skin.
The name promises more than the list shows: honey is 24th of 36, and “soy milk” does not appear by that name. Kiehl’s separate Creme de Tranquillite Richly Whipped Body Butter is also scented.
Brand claims, and how far they go
Kiehl’s says 96% of consumers agree skin looks less flaky after four weeks, and cites a 37% radiance increase in a clinical test. It calls the lotion “the ultimate body lotion for dry skin” and says it is super gentle on sensitive skin. These are brand claims, and the page does not describe how the tests were run. Both measure appearance, not itch.
Is it a good body lotion for menopausal skin?
The lotion may suit you if:
- your arms and legs feel dry or tight and you want no fragrance entry on the label;
- you tolerate plant oils and like a refill pouch.
Choose something else, or ask a clinician first, if:
- your skin is itchy, burning or newly reactive: start with itchy skin in menopause;
- you react to sesame, almond, apricot kernel, soy or propylene glycol;
- you have eczema or psoriasis: Kiehl’s own FAQ says to check with a doctor first;
- your skin is very dry, flaking or cracked, where a cream is the better comparison;
- you hope it will firm crepey skin. A moisturizer can make skin look smoother but does not rebuild collagen; see our neck cream guide;
- you want a face product. Kiehl’s does not recommend body formulas on the face; see our Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream review.
Lotion or whipped body butter?
Neither Kiehl’s product page cites a test showing the butter moisturizes more, so choosing it for “more moisture” is an assumption. The labels show these differences:
- Fragrance: none listed in the lotion, listed in the butter.
- Base: both start with water. The butter has glycerin second and shea butter fifth. The lotion has hydrogenated polyisobutene second, glycerin third and microcrystalline wax.
- Size: 8.4 fl oz against 8.0 oz.
Kiehl’s sells the first as a lotion, not a cream. The AAD says creams and ointments generally add more moisture than lotions, so if you need more richness, a cream is the better move, not a scented butter.
Kiehl’s Creme de Corps or CeraVe Moisturizing Cream?
These two do different jobs, and both list no fragrance.
Kiehl’s lotion has plant oils and propylene glycol, no petrolatum or ceramides, and is for the body only. CeraVe has petrolatum, three ceramides, cholesterol and sodium hyaluronate, no plant oils or propylene glycol, and its page says to use it on face and body, for ages 3 and up. CeraVe’s page also shows the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance, which the NEA says means a brand applied and passed a review, including a fragrance-free formula. On labels alone, CeraVe is the stronger starting point for very dry or itchy-from-dryness skin. For more, see CeraVe versus Vanicream.
Is it worth the price?
It is a premium body lotion, and nothing on the label points to a clear moisturizing advantage over a drugstore cream. The case for it is the texture, the brand and the refill option.
It is worth it if you like the lotion, tolerate the oils and would buy a large size or refill. If you only want relief from dryness, compare price per ounce first. The butter is not worth it for itchy or reactive skin.
How to use it more safely
Patch test on the inner arm for a few days. Apply after a short, lukewarm shower while skin is still damp, and stop if you notice stinging, burning or a rash. The NHS says to see a GP if itchy skin affects your daily life, does not improve with self care, keeps coming back or comes with a new rash. A lotion is not treatment for persistent itch or rash.
Where to buy
The lotion comes in several sizes, and the Whipped Body Butter is a separate product, so check the name and size on the listing before you order.
The researched verdict
The Creme de Corps lotion is a premium body lotion with no fragrance entry on its list. It suits ordinary dryness if you tolerate its plant oils. The Whipped Body Butter lists fragrance, so skip it if your skin itches or burns. For very dry skin, a cream such as CeraVe is the safer starting point. This is researched from brand pages and ingredient lists, not wear-tested. Read the ingredient list on your package.
